Literacy Project

LieracyProjectPic1

Three curious Tarahumara teens peer through the dusty glass window. After untold centuries in the disadvantaged world of illiteracy, a long-awaited Divine Surprise is about to be revealed to the Tarahumara people of La Mesa. The bare-bones interior of the new Learning Center is about to be transformed into the focal point of a literacy program that will enable Tarahumara to read and write their own language.

If response to a recently developed literacy pilot program is any indication, anticipation and motivation are high. Students are enthusiastically practicing each lesson in the most unusual places. The La Mesa missionaries are finding the vowels–– a e i o u––written in the dust on their trucks!

Language materials in the Tarahumara language. An appreciation for the written word. Competent readers. These are all critical components of a healthy Native church. As Tarahumara are introduced to the Lord Jesus, they will be prepared to read His Word as it is translated into their language.

The La Mesa Learning Center stands ready, but largely empty. The building is there but not equipped. You have the opportunity to bless the La Mesa Team and the Tarahumara people by helping provide desks, chairs, a copier, generator, and more.
Help us make the vision for a dynamic learning center a reality––and in the process, be part of a Divine Surprise!

I want to be part of this Divine Surprise!

Realizing that literacy goes hand-in-hand with a successful church planting effort, I want to help provide the materials and equipment needed to complete the Learning Center at La Mesa with my gift of ________________.
